Alan Hunt

Alan Hunt received a colour box from his mother to occupy himself while recovering
from an illness at the age of eight. He was charmed by the natural world and he drew
pictures of birds. He studied zoology from Leeds College and Bristol University after
studying fine art from Middlesbrough Art College. For the first time he exhibited
his work at the age of eighteen in his hometown of Redcar. Later his work was
exhibited in many museums, galleries, public and private collections in many countries.

He was recognized internationally for the first time when he won The Society of Animal
Artists' USA Award of Excellence for four times and The Wildlife Art Society's UK Best
Artist On Show for three times. He was the main artist of five exhibitions that took place
in US and was voted on to the American Wildlife Art Hall Of Fame in 1998. He was
the first person to have received that who was a non-American. He got selected as the
Artist of the Year in 1999 at the Florida Wildlife Art Expo. His work is famous in leading
auctions such as Sotheby's, Bonham’s and Christie’s. He teaches wildlife painting and
leads study tours all over the world.

He speaks about his work saying; “'As a wildlife artist and conservationist, I have grave
concerns for the environment and believe it needs as much support as I can possibly
give, whether financially or as a spokesman”. Alan Hunt educates people of the importance of
conserving wildlife sharing his views with fellow conservationists around the world.
He believes that the leading people of the world are determined to destroy all forms
of life either directly or indirectly by creating wars. Even though it gains control over
the populations he stresses that it has an adverse impact on the environment. Adding to
that he points out that it is the third world countries that are affected most by these wars
and they become poorer resulting in further destruction of the environment. That is due
to misuse of natural resources by irresponsibly cutting and burning forests and killing
animals. He further emphasizes on the importance of farming expertise and machinery on
behalf of weaponry. Simply his message to the world is to protect the environment we all
live in.
